Having trouble losing weight and Need a Weight Loss Plateau Breaker? Here’s Five and a Kicker!
So you’ve been dieting and exercising but all of a sudden it seems like you just can’t lose any weight. You need a weight loss plateau breaker, and fast. So, now what do you do? It is completely normal during your fitness training to have what many people see as a setback. Unfortunately, even the most serious dieter can feel like what they are doing isn’t working and start up with those same old habits. I know I’m even guilty of starting in on the ice cream and breads. Then I realize I need a weight loss plateau breaker to help me get back on track. Here are some great ideas that I got from Justine Holberg who wrote and article for Beachbody, the company that created P90X and who I work with as a coach.
1. Her first weight loss plateau breaker is to zigzag your daily calorie intake. Sometimes you just need to jolt your body into action again. Try to get your metabolism confused by dropping your calories by a couple hundred one day, then raising them a few hundred above normal then back down again. This takes experimenting since everyone is different, but can do the trick if you find that perfect mix. Undereating can actually cause a plateau, so eating more for a day can get your hormones into the act and give you the weight loss plateau breaker you need. Heck, whoever thought that eating more would be a weigh loss plateau breaker?
2. Next, you can do the same thing with your exercise. Doing the same thing everyday can be boring, but it also is less challenging. This is the whole concept behind P90X, Inanity and other Beachbody workouts. Muscle confusion is a very powerful thing and it is one way that Beachbody trainers help you when you need that weight loss plateau breaker. Many Beachbody programs have phases of training for exactly this reason according to Beachbody Director of Results Steve Edwards. Switch it up and you will start to see those results again real soon.
3. Eat almonds. Wow! that was easy! Not only do they taste great, but some research suggests that they help you to burn fat due to their fiber and fatty acids. Edwards says that any nut will actually do, because they all have the same basic makeup. However, almonds are on of the better ones. This weigh loss plateau breaker is so simple even I can do it.
4. Sleep could be the most important and effective weight loss plateau breaker. The problem could be that you are training too hard. This can be a very fast way to hit a plateau according to Holberg. According to the article, a recent study at the University of Chicago Medical School found that people who are deprived of sleep metabolize glucose less effectively, and have higher cortisol levels. It goes on to say that the only thing that rivals sleep in helping your body recover from exercise is performance enhancing drugs. If you think you are over-training and you need a weight loss plateau breaker that will work quickly, I recommend getting a good night sleep tonight and every night.
5. This is a tough one. Relax! Stress is a huge reason people his a plateau. Cortisol levels are higher when you are stressed and tell your body to keep the fat. According to Edwards, cortisol is actually there to help us by enhancing our performance in an emergency just like adrenalin. The problem is that we have gotten too much through stress. Take some time to be alone. This weight loss plateau breaker could be number 2 behind sleep in my opinion. P90X has Yoga X, or Yoga Booty Ballet may work. If you don’t like yoga, then try some stretching. All of the Beachbody workouts have a stretch routine that can help you relax.
